  • Mahaveer Trust dialysis services expand for poor patients
  • Affordable dialysis helps save Rs 136 crore in treatment

Established in 2009 by a group of Jain philanthropists, the Trust began with a single dialysis unit at Mahaveer Hospital in A C Guards. Initially, it served six patients per month. However, it has steadily expanded over the years. Today, it operates 228 dialysis machines and conducts around 600 sessions daily across multiple centres.

Meanwhile, the Trust offers dialysis at just Rs 300 per session. In comparison, corporate hospitals charge between Rs 2,500 and Rs 5,000. Therefore, the initiative has significantly reduced the financial burden on patients who require long-term treatment.

The Trust currently provides services at 11 locations and three associate hospitals in and around Hyderabad. These include centres in Aler and Jangaon. In addition to dialysis, it also offers supportive treatments at subsidised rates. These include erythropoietin injections, iron sucrose, levocarnitine injections, and dialysis kits.

The organisation is chaired by P C Parakh, a former Union Coal Secretary and retired IAS officer of the Andhra Pradesh cadre. Under its leadership, the Trust has continued to expand its reach and improve access to essential healthcare services for underprivileged patients.

Speaking on the occasion, Trustee Ashok Kothari highlighted the significance of the achievement. He said, “Reaching 18 lakh dialysis sessions is not merely a number, as it represents 18 lakh lives sustained and cared for. This milestone reflects the dedication of our medical teams, staff, donors, and volunteers.”

Therefore, the milestone reflects not only growth in numbers but also the sustained effort of medical teams and volunteers. The Mahaveer Trust dialysis initiative continues to play a key role in supporting patients who depend on regular treatment for survival.
