Chandigarh/Hyderabad, Oct 1 (Maxim News) A few months before the Assembly Elections, a key development has taken place in the Punjab Congress. State Congress President Amarinder Singh Raja Warring has resigned from his post. He submitted his resignation letter to the party’s General Secretary KC Venugopal. This change has become significant with the 2027 Punjab Assembly elections just a few months away.
Congress sources said that the name of the new president is likely to be announced within 24 to 48 hours. The name of former minister Vijay Inder Singla is being discussed. The names of Jalandhar Cantt MLA Pargat Singh and Gurdaspur MP Sukhjinder Singh Randhawa are also under consideration. The name of former CM Charanjit Singh Channi is also being discussed. The main reason for Raja Waring’s resignation is said to be the long-standing internal differences in the Punjab Congress.
The differences between the Warring faction and Charanjit Singh Channi faction, in particular, have come to the fore in party programs and meetings. To resolve this issue, the Congress had earlier continued Waring as the state president and given Channi the responsibility of the party’s campaign committee. However, the differences have not completely disappeared. Sachin Pilot, who recently took charge as the in-charge of Punjab Congress affairs, held meetings with state leaders and workers.
Congress sources said that a report on the party’s situation and internal differences has been submitted to the high command. It is learnt that the decision on the change in the state leadership was taken only after this report. Raja Warring took charge as the president of the Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee in April 2022. Now, the Congress high command is planning to appoint a new leader in his place and prepare the party for the upcoming assembly elections. (Maxim News)
