Man Nabbed at Lingampally Station with ₹20 Lakh Worth of Stolen Gold
Hyderabad, June 26 (Maxim News): In a major breakthrough, the Nampally Railway Police have arrested a man involved in train thefts, recovering gold ornaments worth ₹20 lakh from his possession during a routine check at Lingampally Railway Station on Thursday.
According to CI Praveen Kumar, the accused, Ballasagar Anil Kumar (32), a resident of the Leprosy Hospital area in Nalgonda district, was found loitering suspiciously at the station. Upon questioning and further investigation, police discovered that he was linked to a recent theft case on a Kakinada special train, which passed through Chandanagar on June 24. A woman had reported her luggage bag, containing valuable ornaments, stolen during the journey.
Anil Kumar, who sells flowers in the Chandanagar area, was reportedly using this as a cover while targeting train passengers’ belongings. During interrogation, he confessed to stealing valuables from unattended bags inside trains.
Gold Seized, Accused Remanded
The police seized gold jewellery worth approximately ₹20 lakh from his possession. Following the seizure, he was formally arrested and remanded to judicial custody as per the instructions of senior officials.
CI Praveen Kumar also commended the efforts of the team involved in the arrest — Narsing Rathod, A. Srinivas, Shakeel Pasha, Srinivas, and Ismail Sharif — for their vigilance and swift action in nabbing the culprit.
Advisory for Passengers
Railway Police urged passengers to stay alert during travel and avoid leaving their belongings unattended. Special checks and surveillance have been intensified at major railway stations across the city to curb such incidents.
