Millben made the remarks amid demands by opposition and CJP leaders for the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar. Her allegations about foreign funding and political motives have not been independently established in the report.
Mary Millben Calls for Youth to Defend Democracy
Millben urged young Indians to remain alert and peacefully oppose what she described as divisive forces. She also praised Modi’s political career, saying he had served India for 25 years and had been elected Prime Minister three consecutive times.
The singer alleged that donors around the world target conservative leaders, recruit people educated in the United States and fund them to create political disruption in their home countries. These claims were presented as her views and were not accompanied by supporting evidence in the report.
Millben said she believed a counter-movement was needed to uphold democracy and freedom. She called for educated people to come forward and urged young Indians to raise their voices peacefully.
Millben, an African-American Hollywood actress and singer, has gained recognition in India through her performances of Indian devotional songs and the national anthem. During Modi’s visit to the United States in 2023, she performed India’s national anthem, Jana Gana Mana, at an event.
