- Meerpet police probe deaths of woman and minor son
A suspected family dispute in Meerpet led to the death of a woman and her minor son late Thursday night. The incident occurred at Hasthinapuram, according to information available from police. The deaths have triggered an investigation, while the woman’s mother survived a suicide attempt and remains under treatment at a private hospital.
The incident took place at Jaya Krishna Enclave in Hasthinapuram. Police said the woman and her son allegedly consumed an unknown poison. Later, both were found unresponsive inside the house. The case has been registered as a suspected family dispute, based on preliminary findings at the scene.
Sushmitha, aged 27, wife of Yashwanth Reddy, is believed to have first given poison to her 10 year old son, Yashwanth Nanda Reddy. After that, she allegedly consumed the poison herself. The child also succumbed, police said. The sequence of events is part of the initial assessment, and officers are still verifying all details.
Meanwhile, the situation worsened when Sushmitha’s mother, Lalitha, discovered the woman and the child lying unresponsive at home. In a state of shock, she allegedly consumed poison as well. Family members and locals immediately shifted her to a nearby hospital. Doctors later reported that her condition is stable, according to police.
Soon after receiving information, the Meerpet police reached the spot. They secured the house and began preliminary inquiries. Police then shifted the bodies of the woman and the child for autopsy. Officials said the postmortem examination would help establish the exact cause of death.
Preliminary investigation points to ongoing family disputes as the possible trigger behind the tragic incident. However, police said they are not drawing final conclusions at this stage. Therefore, further inquiry is underway to establish the full sequence of events and the circumstances that led to the deaths.
Police officials also said they are collecting statements from relatives and others linked to the family. Later, they will examine all available evidence. The Meerpet police confirmed that the investigation will continue until all facts are clearly established. They added that more details would be known after the autopsy reports and further questioning.
