Hyderabad, August 7: Microsoft on Thursday announced the general availability of its India South Central cloud region in Hyderabad, significantly expanding its cloud and artificial intelligence infrastructure in the country. The new cloud region strengthens Microsoft’s digital footprint in India and is expected to accelerate AI adoption, enterprise cloud services, and digital transformation across industries.
The Hyderabad cloud region becomes Microsoft’s fourth cloud region in India, joining Central India (Pune), South India (Chennai), and West India (Mumbai). The company also operates two additional datacenters in partnership with Jio, giving it one of the country’s largest hyperscale cloud infrastructures.
Hyderabad Cloud Region Strengthens AI Infrastructure
The new datacenter region features three Availability Zones designed to provide high availability, disaster recovery, and business continuity for mission critical workloads. Microsoft said the facility has been built in compliance with India’s regulatory requirements and seismic safety standards.
The company stated that the Hyderabad region will allow organizations to run eligible Microsoft Cloud services and AI workloads within India while meeting stringent security, compliance, and data residency requirements.
Microsoft noted that demand for cloud computing and AI infrastructure has grown rapidly across sectors. Azure has recorded strong double digit growth in India over the past two years, and the company expects the new Hyderabad region to further boost adoption.
Several leading enterprises, including Adani Group, Bajaj Finserv, HDFC Bank, and PB Pay, are already using the Hyderabad cloud region under the early access programme.
The company said the new infrastructure will help businesses modernize legacy systems, develop digital services, deploy AI applications, and improve operational resilience.
The Hyderabad expansion builds on Microsoft’s significant investments in India. The technology giant announced a $3 billion investment in January 2025, followed by a $17.5 billion investment commitment in December 2025 to strengthen cloud and AI infrastructure across the country.
Puneet Chandok, President of Microsoft India and South Asia, said trusted digital infrastructure located close to where data is generated is essential for organizations seeking to convert AI experimentation into long term business value. He added that the Hyderabad cloud region will enable customers to innovate faster while maintaining security, governance, and compliance standards.
The launch further reinforces Hyderabad’s position as one of India’s leading technology and data infrastructure hubs, attracting global investments in cloud computing, artificial intelligence, and digital innovation.
