Millets Road Show held at MANUU

Hyderabad, September 21: The Botany section of School of Sciences (SoS), Maulana Azad National Urdu University (MANUU) has organized a Road Show on Millets at the campus today in collaboration with Indian Institute of Millets Research (ICAR).

Prof. Syed Ainul Hasn, Vice-Chancellor inaugurated the road show in front of the administrative building at 3,00 pm. Prof Sk Ishtiaque Ahmed, Registrar also accompanied him.

Prof. Ainul Hasan appreciated the efforts of IIMR (ICAR) for making people aware about the usage of Millets in their daily food and its importance for good health. Prof. Hasan also expressed the interest to have collaboration of MANUU with IIMR, Hyderabad and hope to visit IIMR campus soon.

IIMR is a premier agricultural research institute engaged in basic and strategic research on sorghum and other Millets under Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR).

Prof. Salman Ahmed Khan, Dean, School of Sciences also spoke.

Prof. S. Maqbool Ahmed, Head Life Sciences in his welcome address informed that the UN General Assembly has declared 2023 as International year of Millets & as directed by Ministry and UGC, MANUU is conducting series of events on Millets. In this connection a webinar was already conducted in the month of March and in forthcoming days MANUU planned to have two more events – poster presentation & food carnival in collaboration with IIMR. Prof. Maqbool also said that in consultation with the Director, IIMR, University may also plan some skill based programmes such as food processing etc.

Senior Scientist of Agricultural Economics, Dr. Anuradha Narala from IIMR spoke on importance of Millets and their value added products.

Prof. H. Aleem Basha, Prof. Shakeel Ahmed, Dr. Ira Khan and Dr. Merajul Islam Robab and others were also present on the occasion.
