Minister KTR Slams BJP Govt
Hyderabad, June 6 (Maxim News): IT Minister KT Rama Rao today slammed BJP government at the centre for extending the apology to the Gulf countries and questioned why India as a country should apologise for the “hate speeches of BJP bigots“.
KT Rama Rao criticised the Centre for the backlash from the Gulf following remarks by BJP spokespersons on Prophet Muhammad and demanded that BJP should apologise to Indians at home for “spewing and spreading hatred day in day out”.
In a series of tweets, Rama Rao said it was the BJP which should apologise, not India as a nation. “It is BJP that should apologise; not India as a Nation. Your party should first apologise to Indians at home for spewing & spreading hatred day in day out, (sic)” he said
Citing the remarks of BJP MP Sadhvi Pragya Singh Thakur terming Nathuram Godse a patriot, the Minister said the Prime Minister’s “silence was deafening & shocking when BJP MP Pragya Singh hailed assassination of Mahatma Gandhi”.
“Let me remind you sir; What you permit is what you promote,” he said, adding that “tacit support from top is what emboldened the bigotry & hatred”.
India is facing a huge backlash from the Gulf over the remarks by the BJP spokespersons. Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Bahrain and Iran have strongly condemned the remarks, describing them as “Islamophobic”.
BJP spokespersons Nupur Sharma and Naveen Jindal apologised on Sunday over their objectionable comments after the party suspended Sharma and expelled Jindal. The action came just hours before Iran, Kuwait and Qatar issued official notes. On Monday morning, Saudi Arabia too joined the list.
But the Central government has been repeatedly assuring all nations that all religions are respected in India.
The BJP – announcing action against Sharma and Jindal – had said it is “against any ideology which insults or demeans any sect or religion.” “The BJP does not promote such people or philosophy…During the thousands of years of the history of India every religion has blossomed and flourished. The Bharatiya Janata Party respects all religions,” it underlined in a statement. (Maxim News)
