Internet/Hyderabad, July 9 (Maxim News): A day before Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to New Zealand, Prime Minister Christopher Luxon made a key announcement. He revealed that 57 percent of New Zealand’s exports to India will be duty-free on the first day of the Free Trade Agreement (FTA) with India. He clarified that the agreement will benefit New Zealand traders immensely.
Meanwhile, Prime Minister Modi will arrive in Auckland on July 10. After visits to Indonesia and Australia, he will visit New Zealand as the last stop on his three-nation tour. This is the first official visit by an Indian Prime Minister to New Zealand in 40 years.
India and New Zealand signed a free trade agreement in April this year. This deal will gradually remove tariffs on 95 percent of goods imported from that country to India. This is expected to further strengthen trade and investment ties between the two countries. Bilateral trade between the two countries reached 1.3 billion US dollars in the financial year 2024-25. It was recorded at 2.4 billion dollars in 2024. In this, travel, information technology services and business sectors played a key role. International issues such as trade, investment, maritime security, education, technology, tourism and sports will be the main topics of discussion in the Modi-Luxan meeting. Prime Minister Modi believed that this visit would further contribute to the building of a free Indo-Pacific region, including India’s ‘Act East’ policy and the ‘Mahasagar (Mutual and Holistic Advancement for Security Across the Regions)’ vision.
