The State Election Commission directed district collectors to conduct the elections on April 4. Officials also stated that if the process is delayed for any reason on Saturday, it must be completed the following day. State Election Commission Commissioner Rani Kumudini issued these instructions earlier this week.

In Kyatanapalli Municipality of Chennur constituency in Mancherial district, elections were earlier disrupted due to clashes and lack of quorum. Out of 22 wards, the BRS-CPI alliance secured 14 wards, with BRS winning 10 and CPI four. Meanwhile, Congress won seven wards. However, tensions escalated during the February 17 election attempt. Members from rival groups reportedly attacked each other with stones, leading to another postponement. Subsequently, nine individuals, including BRS leader and former MLA Balka Suman, were remanded for 14 days in connection with the incident.

In Khanapur Municipality, no party secured a clear majority. Out of 12 seats, BRS and BJP won four each, Congress secured three, and one seat went to an independent candidate. As no party reached the required majority of seven, the election was postponed twice due to lack of quorum. Therefore, the Election Commission rescheduled the municipal elections April 4. Political observers note that alliances may play a key role in deciding the outcome here.

Meanwhile, in Ibrahimpatnam Municipality in Rangareddy district, BRS crossed the majority mark by winning 13 out of 24 wards. With additional support from an independent and a BJP councillor, its strength reached 15. However, legal complications delayed the election after a missing member’s family approached the court, alleging kidnapping. As a result, the process was temporarily halted and is now scheduled for April 4.

Officials confirmed that a special meeting will be held at 11 am on the election day. The voting process will begin at 12:30 pm after the oath-taking ceremony of ward members. Notices were already issued to elected representatives on April 2.

Meanwhile, BRS has appointed in-charges for all three municipalities. The party aims to secure all posts amid intense competition. With political stakes high, the municipal elections April 4 are expected to witness close contests and strategic alliances.
