Hyderabad: Municipal polls nominations crossed a major milestone as the filing process ended on Friday, with 28,456 nominations submitted across 124 Urban Local Bodies in the state. The sharp rise on the final day reflected intense political activity, as parties and candidates rushed to complete formalities before the deadline. According to the State Election Commission, nearly 20,000 municipal polls nominations were filed on the final day alone. Meanwhile, during the first two days of the process, more than 8,000 nominations were submitted. The figures showed a steady increase as the deadline approached. Also, the last day saw heightened activity at filing centers, with candidates and supporters arriving in large numbers to submit papers.

The Commission confirmed that the scrutiny of municipal polls nominations will take place on January 31. After scrutiny, candidates will have time to decide their next steps. Therefore, the last date for withdrawal of nominations has been fixed as February 3. On the same day, the Commission will publish the final list of contesting candidates. This step will clearly outline the electoral field across all 124 Urban Local Bodies.

Meanwhile, election authorities have moved ahead with preparations for polling. The State Election Commission announced that voting for the municipal elections will be held on February 11. Polling will take place from 7 am to 5 pm. Officials stated that necessary arrangements are being planned to ensure a smooth voting process across all municipalities. Also, the schedule allows time for candidates to campaign after the final list is released.

The high number of municipal polls nominations highlights strong interest in local governance elections. It also reflects active participation from political parties and independent candidates alike. However, the actual contest will become clear only after the scrutiny and withdrawal stages conclude.
