- Musi Revival and Godavari Phase 2, 3 Projects
Musi River Rejuvenation | Hyderabad, Sept. 8: Chief Minister Revanth Reddy’s dream project to revive the Musi River has officially to begun today.
The initiative, first announced in 2024, is aimed at transforming the riverfront while addressing urban water and environmental needs.
To prepare for the project, Revanth Reddy’s team studied river development models in the UK and South Korea.
The Musi Rejuvenation faces challenges, particularly opposition to the removal of encroachments along the riverbanks.
However, financial backing has been secured, with the Asian Development Bank (ADB) announcing a loan of ₹4,100 crore.
Officials confirmed that three Detailed Project Reports (DPRs) linked to major components are now in the final stage, setting the groundwork for large-scale execution.
Godavari Drinking Water Supply Phase 2 and 3 to Meet 2030 Needs
Alongside the Musi project, CM Revanth Reddy has laid the foundation for the Godavari Drinking Water Supply Scheme Phase 2 and 3 at an estimated cost of ₹7,360 crore.
The government aims to address Hyderabad’s growing water demand by planning ahead until 2030. Under this scheme, twin reservoirs will be filled with Godavari water, enabling the transfer of 20 TMC of additional water both for drinking purposes and for Musi River revival.

Currently, Hyderabad receives 580 MGD of drinking water from multiple sources. Projections indicate that demand will rise to 835 MGD by 2027 and 1,114 MGD by 2047.
To bridge this gap, the new projects are designed to ensure an additional 300 MGD supply. Water board officials said 17.5 TMC will be dedicated to Hyderabad’s drinking water needs, while 2.5 TMC will support Musi purification and reservoir rejuvenation.
The water board further explained that the scheme offers dual benefits, meeting the city’s drinking water demand and providing an opportunity to revive the Musi River and twin reservoirs.
Phase 1 already draws 10 TMC from the Yellampalli project. With the addition of 20 TMC from the Mallanna Sagar reservoir under Phases 2 and 3, Hyderabad’s long-term water security is expected to be significantly strengthened.
