Nampally Forensic Lab Fire Leads to Sealing of Facility

Hyderabad: Police on Sunday sealed the forensic laboratory building in Nampally following a fire incident, intensifying the investigation into the Nampally forensic lab fire. Officials confirmed that the blaze broke out in the computer room of the Telangana Forensic Science Laboratory, triggering a detailed probe.

According to police, staff noticed thick smoke coming from the computer section around 10:30 am and immediately rushed outside. An office boy attempted to control the flames using a fire extinguisher. However, the effort failed as the fire spread quickly. He later became unwell after being trapped briefly due to heavy smoke.

Nampally Forensic Lab Fire Under Detailed Investigation

As part of the probe into the Nampally forensic lab fire, the Clues Team SP will conduct another inspection on Sunday. He will verify who was present in the office at the time of the incident. He will also examine CCTV footage from the premises. Meanwhile, police confirmed that around 40 computers, along with hard drives, laptops, and pen drives, were destroyed in the fire.

Forensic Science Laboratory Director Shikha Goel is scheduled to visit the site shortly. She will inspect the affected area and is expected to address a press conference later in the day. At the same time, police are examining whether the fire occurred accidentally or if any conspiracy angle exists.

Fire department personnel responded swiftly after receiving information. Six fire engines were deployed, and firefighters worked for nearly three hours to bring the blaze under complete control. Senior officials, including FSL DG Shikha Goel, Fire Department DG Vikram Singh Mann, and Hyderabad North Range DIG Shweta Reddy, were present during the relief operations.

In a statement, Shikha Goel said case related property and key equipment of the FSL remained safe. She added that officials were assessing the extent of damage caused by the fire. Authorities also confirmed that no loss of life occurred, which brought relief to staff and officials.

The laboratory handles sensitive evidence, including documents, DNA samples, and electronic data. These materials play a vital role in court proceedings. Officials are now assessing whether the Nampally forensic lab fire will impact ongoing investigations linked to the damaged equipment.
