Hyderabad, August 29: A 25 year old dispute over a neem tree ended in two deaths in Suryapet district on Saturday morning.
The incident occurred at Erragattuthanda in Mellacheruvu mandal. Two men died after an alleged axe attack during a clash between two groups.
Mellacheruvu sub inspector Naveen Kumar also suffered serious injuries while trying to control the situation. Police later took the main accused, Bhukya Ramu, into custody.
According to local residents, the dispute involved a neem tree located near a house boundary. Families of Amaraboyin Venkateshwarlu and Bhukya Saida had argued over the tree for about 25 years.
The dispute escalated again on Saturday morning. Venkateshwarlu allegedly brought some people and had the neem tree cut down.
Saida’s son Ramu reportedly reached the spot after noticing the tree being cut. He questioned Venkateshwarlu over the decision.
The argument soon turned violent. According to the available account, Ramu allegedly attacked Venkateshwarlu with an axe.
Venkateshwarlu died at the scene following the attack. Saida then reportedly intervened to stop the assault.
Ramu allegedly attacked his own father during the confrontation. Saida also died at the scene.
Local residents claimed Ramu attacked his father to divert attention from the incident. However, police have not officially confirmed this claim.
Police Officer Injured During Clash
The deaths triggered further tension in the village. Some residents allegedly gathered and attacked Ramu’s house with stones.
Police teams reached Erragattuthanda after receiving information about the violence. Officers then tried to bring the situation under control.
During the intervention, some unidentified attackers allegedly assaulted Sub Inspector Naveen Kumar with an axe.
The officer suffered serious injuries to his head. Police immediately shifted him to the Huzurnagar Area Hospital for treatment.
Police registered a case and started an investigation into the deaths and the attack on the officer. They also took Ramu into custody in connection with the incident.
Additional police personnel have been deployed in the village to prevent further violence. Officials are monitoring the situation closely.
