NEET 2021 to be held on August 1

New Delhi, NEET: The National Testing Agency (NTA) announced that the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) examination to get admission in undergraduate medical courses to be held on 1st August. The notification released on Friday i.e, on 12 March.

According to the statements, NEET (UG) -2021 will be conducted in 11 languages including English and Hindi through paper and pen mode on August 1st. NEET Under Graduate is conducted by the NTA for admissions to MBBS/BDS and other undergraduate medical courses.

The exam will be conducted on 1st August throughout the nation.

It is usually held in May, after Class 12 board examinations, in order to facilitate admissions by August. However, due to disruptions caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, board examinations have been delayed this year and will only be completed in June, delaying the medical entrance examination as well.

In 2020, NEET was held in September, and repeated in October to cater to those who missed the exam due to COVID. Some students had urged that multiple attempts be permitted in 2021, similar to engineering entrance examination JEE. However, the NEET examination will revert to a single date in 2021.

Education Minister Ramesh Pokhriyal Nishank has indicated that although there will be no reduction in syllabus for NEET, there may be a larger level of internal choice to account for the fact that several school examination boards have reduced their syllabus due to the impact of the pandemic.

It is to mention here that NEET was conducted on 13 September amid strict precautions in view of the COVID-19 pandemic. Over 13.66 lakh candidates appeared for NEET 2020. Out of that, 7,71,500 students have qualified the exam. The National Testing Agency, the body organising the exam put in place a raft of measures such as increasing the number of exam centers and reducing the number of students in a room in view of the COVID-19.

NTA earlier announced that the syllabus of NEET will remain unchanged for the year 2021.

The admissions to MBBS course in the 13 All India Institute of Medical Sciences, Jawaharlal Institute of Postgraduate Medical Education and Research, Puducherry will be made through NEET.
