North Korea Missile Test: 10 Ballistic Missiles Fired
- North Korea missile test follows South Korea US joint military exercises
- Missiles launched near Pyongyang; South Korea shares data with Japan and United States
A fresh North Korea missile test drew regional attention after authorities in South Korea said North Korea fired 10 ballistic missiles into eastern waters on Saturday. The launch came shortly after South Korea took part in joint military exercises with the United States, according to officials.
Officials said the missiles were launched from areas near Pyongyang, the North Korean capital. However, authorities have not yet confirmed how far the missiles traveled. The launches therefore triggered monitoring by regional defense agencies.
According to South Korea’s Joint Chiefs of Staff, the missile launches were detected and tracked soon after they were fired. The military then shared details about the North Korea missile test with both the United States and Japan. Officials said such coordination is part of routine security cooperation when missile activity occurs in the region.
Meanwhile, Japan’s defense minister stated that the missiles landed near the Demilitarized Zone. The Demilitarized Zone separates North Korea and South Korea and remains one of the most sensitive military areas on the Korean Peninsula. Because of this, any missile activity near the region often raises security concerns among neighboring countries.
Japan’s Defense Ministry also provided further technical details about the launch. According to the ministry, the missiles tested by North Korea traveled about 340 kilometers. However, authorities did not immediately confirm additional data such as flight altitude or trajectory.
The latest North Korea missile test comes in the wake of joint military exercises involving South Korea and the United States. North Korea has often criticized such exercises in the past. Meanwhile, regional governments closely monitor missile activity to assess potential security risks.
Officials in South Korea said they will continue sharing information with partners and observing developments related to the launches. Therefore, defense authorities in the region remain alert as they review the data gathered from the missile activity.
