Ola, Uber drivers will continue strike till Jan 4: TCA

Hyderabad, Jan 1 (Maxim News): Stating that the strike by Ola and Uber drivers in Hyderabad was totally successful on the second day on Sunday, Telangana Cabs Association president Sunil Mukkawar announced that five-day strike would continue till January 4.

The TCA president said that thousands of drivers were participating in the 5-day strike in protest against low earnings due to irrational increase in number of vehicles by the managements of aggregators Ola and Uber. Speaking to media persons here on Sunday, Sunil Mukkawar said that the strike enjoys the support of all active Associations and almost all drivers are participating in the strike. However, he alleged that the Uber and Ola management were trying to ply some cabs by illegally changing their number plates from ‘Yellow’ to ‘White’. He also furnished a few photographs to substantiate his allegation.

On Sunday, nearly 2,000 Uber and Ola drivers took out a rally from Kukatpally to LB Nagar. They raised slogans against the Uber and Ola management and demanded that they stop new registrations as the existing cab owners were not getting promised minimum business. Addressing the cab drivers, Sunil Mukkawar alleged that the Uber and Ola managements were using coercive methods to suppress the strike. He said that the managements should accept all the demands of protesting drivers.

Sunil Mukkawar said that the Uber and Ola were able to establish their business in Hyderabad drivers due to the hard work and dedication of drivers who worked for almost 18 hours a day. However, the managements of both the aggregators are now trying to cut off their earnings and incentives, by taking up new registrations. He said such an unhealthy practice would not be tolerated and the drivers would continue their strike.

He said that the future course of action will be decided on January 4 at the end of five-day strike period. (Maxim News)
