Operation Thrash-E Sees Jaish Commander Killed In Kathua

Hyderabad: Security forces achieved a major breakthrough under Operation Thrash-e as a top Jaish-e-Mohammed commander was killed in an encounter in Jammu and Kashmir’s Kathua district. The operation took place as forces intensified checks across the region ahead of Republic Day on January 26, following inputs about possible terror threats.

According to the provided input, the encounter occurred in the Parhetar area of Billawar in Kathua district. Jammu IG Bhim Sen Tuti said that Jaish commander Usman alias Abu Mavia was killed in a joint operation conducted by the Indian Army and the CRPF. Security forces acted on information about the presence of terrorists hiding in a house in a remote village. However, when the forces moved in, the terrorists opened fire. The Army then retaliated, leading to the killing of Usman.

Army officials confirmed that a state of the art M4 automatic rifle and a large quantity of weapons and ammunition were seized from the encounter site. Meanwhile, the Army stated on X that a foreign terrorist was killed during a cordon and search operation based on reliable information. It also said that combing operations are still ongoing in the area to ensure no other threats remain.

Security officials further revealed that Usman had earlier escaped during encounters in the Kahog and Najot forest areas on the 7th and 13th of this month. Later, during an encounter on Thursday, Usman and some others fled into a dense forest area. He was eventually killed in the latest exchange of fire, marking a key success for Operation Thrash-e.

The input also stated that Usman was a Pakistani national who had sneaked into Kashmir two years ago by crossing the border. He was active as a Jaish-e-Mohammed terrorist in the Udhampur Kathua area and had become the most wanted commander of the outfit. Therefore, his killing is seen as a significant development in ongoing anti terror operations.

Meanwhile, with Republic Day approaching, forces continue Operation Thrashe across sensitive areas. Earlier, during the same operation, a paratrooper was killed and seven jawans were injured in an encounter with terrorists on Sunday. No major developments were reported for four days after that incident. However, security forces maintained pressure, which later led to the latest encounter and the killing of the Jaish commander.
