Hyderabad, May 5 (Maxim News) : Asaduddin Owaisi on Tuesday reacted to the 2026 election results and said the people’s mandate must be respected while calling for independent Muslim political leadership across India.
Speaking at Darussalam, Owaisi thanked voters in West Bengal for supporting AIMIM candidates. However, he admitted that the party could not win any seats. He noted that AIMIM performed strongly in Kandi, where candidate Mujibul Islam secured significant votes.
Moreover, Owaisi expressed confidence in the party’s future in Malda and Murshidabad. He said AIMIM would review its mistakes and improve its performance. He added that the party would strengthen its presence in the region.
Owaisi accepted the verdict in West Bengal, where voters handed power to the BJP. He said the decision reflected the will of the people. However, he criticized so called secular parties for failing to stop the BJP.

Furthermore, Owaisi said political strategies like soft Hindutva had failed in several states. He cited Arvind Kejriwal, Uddhav Thackeray, and Mamata Banerjee. He argued that such approaches did not prevent electoral losses.
He also referred to historical developments. He said Mamata Banerjee had supported a BJP MP in 1998. He added that she later served in the cabinet of Atal Bihari Vajpayee as Railway Minister.
Owaisi raised concerns about the socio economic condition of Muslims in West Bengal. He said data shows that Muslims remain the most marginalized community. He highlighted poor living conditions in Malda and Murshidabad. He stressed that Muslim women face severe hardship in these areas.
Additionally, he attributed the election outcome to anti-incumbency, corruption, and dissatisfaction among voters. He said these factors weakened the ruling party.
Owaisi also pointed to economic concerns. He said West Bengal has a large economy but ranks low in per capita income. He added that migration from districts like Malda and Murshidabad reflects governance challenges.
Meanwhile, he commented on results in other states. In Kerala, he welcomed the performance of IUML under the UDF and noted that it secured 22 MLAs. In Assam, he said the BJP retained power despite displacement issues affecting Muslims. He added that stronger representation by AIUDF, led by Badruddin Ajmal, would have amplified community voices.
He also noted that the mandate in Tamil Nadu came as a surprise. However, he said voters made a clear choice.
Owaisi stated that he was not part of the INDIA alliance. Therefore, he declined to comment on its internal decisions.
He stressed that Muslims must build independent leadership. He said communities often remain voters but not decision makers. He cited Seemanchal as an example where AIMIM gained support and built leadership.
Furthermore, he urged citizens to ensure proper documentation during the Special Intensive Revision process. He warned that it relates to citizenship as well as voting rights. He said AIMIM has set up help centers in Telangana and Maharashtra.
Owaisi also raised concern over the killing of a Maulana on a moving train. He said he has written to the Railway Minister seeking an inquiry. He demanded that authorities treat the case as a hate crime.
He criticized remarks by Himanta Biswa Sarma on madrasas. He said displacement and poverty prevent children from accessing education. He added that such actions deepen inequality.
Finally, Owaisi said politics remains dynamic and future outcomes are uncertain. He urged communities to move beyond vote bank politics and become empowered citizens.
He also called on the central government to support Telangana’s development. He highlighted the need for Hyderabad Metro Phase 2 funding. He said all states deserve fair treatment within the Union. (Maxim News)
