Islamabad, August 21: Pakistan Army Chief Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir described Balochistan militants as foreign sponsored proxies on Friday.
Munir made the remarks while meeting political leaders and prominent figures from Balochistan, according to the army.
He accused hostile elements of using militants to destabilise the province and obstruct its development.
Balochistan Militancy Remains Major Security Challenge
Munir said Balochistan and Pakistan share the same future and destiny.
He also said the province’s future rests with its people.
Balochistan has faced a long running separatist insurgency involving groups such as the outlawed Balochistan Liberation Army.
The BLA seeks independence for the mineral rich province. Insurgents have accused Pakistan’s central government of political marginalisation and resource exploitation.
Meanwhile, the BLA has increased attacks against security forces, government facilities and Chinese interests linked to the China Pakistan Economic Corridor.
In July, militants attacked a police checkpoint in Ziarat, killing 27 policemen.
In May, a BLA suicide attack on a shuttle train in Quetta killed at least 47 people and injured 98 others.
The group also carried out coordinated attacks across Balochistan in January, targeting security installations, government buildings and civilian areas.
Those attacks killed at least 31 civilians and 17 security personnel.
Earlier, in March 2025, the BLA hijacked a train in Bolan. The attack killed at least 59 people and involved hundreds of hostages.
