Hyderabad: A passenger was arrested in Hyderabad after he allegedly misbehaved with an airhostess on a flight from Dubai to Hyderabad. According to the complaint, the passenger, who is a native of Kerala, touched the airhostess while she was providing services on board. The RGI Airport Police Station Inspector Kankaiah Samapathi said the crew noticed that the man appeared to be under the influence of alcohol or was intoxicated. Therefore, the crew alerted the captain during the flight. The captain later informed the ground staff once the aircraft landed in Hyderabad.

After landing, the flyer told the staff that he had misplaced his passport in his seat. However, when the crew searched for the document, they found a note instead. The note contained “obscene and abusive” remarks aimed at the crew members. The discovery further strengthened the seriousness of the complaint, and police moved ahead with the investigation. Meanwhile, officials recorded statements from the staff and initiated legal action.

Based on the airhostess’ complaint, police registered a case under Section 74, which deals with assault or use of criminal force against a woman with the intent to outrage her modesty, and Section 75, which concerns sexual harassment. Both sections come under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. Police also added other relevant provisions before arresting the accused. Then the man was produced before a local court. The court later sent him to judicial remand.

The incident has once again highlighted concerns about unruly passenger behaviour on flights. It also shows the growing number of complaints from cabin crew who face harassment during duty. However, the swift arrest in this case shows that authorities are taking such incidents seriously and ensuring that complaints are acted upon without delay.
