PM Modi Inaugurates Kalachakra Empowerment Ceremony In Bhutan

Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the Kalachakra Empowerment ceremony on Wednesday in Bhutan. He performed the ritual alongside King Jigme Khesar Namgyel Wangchuck and former King Jigme Singye Wangchuck amid the ongoing Global Peace Prayer Festival. Modi described the event as a significant ritual with deep cultural meaning for Buddhists worldwide.
“This is an important ritual with great cultural significance for Buddhists around the world. The Kalachakra Empowerment is a part of the ongoing Global Peace Prayer Festival,” Modi said in a social media post. He also mentioned that the ceremony was presided over by His Holiness the Je Khenpo, adding to its importance.

Earlier in the day, Modi met the former King Jigme Singye Wangchuck, appreciating his longstanding effort to strengthen the ties between India and Bhutan. The two leaders discussed various areas of cooperation, including energy, trade, technology, and connectivity. Modi praised progress on the Gelephu Mindfulness City Project, linking it to India’s Act East Policy.
Modi expressed gratitude for the former king’s guidance in enhancing the special friendship between the two countries. The Ministry of External Affairs confirmed that Modi conveyed best wishes for the former king’s health and long life. Modi’s visit to Bhutan, lasting two days, also included an address commemorating the 70th birth anniversary of Bhutan’s fourth Druk Gyalpo, Jigme Singye Wangchuck. Modi highlighted the deep spiritual and cultural bonds shared between India and Bhutan over centuries.
This ceremony and visit underscore India’s commitment to close partnership with Bhutan, fostering peace, cultural exchange, and regional cooperation.
