Delhi/Hyderabad, June 28 (Maxim News): Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday paid tribute to former Prime Minister P.V. Narasimha Rao on his birth anniversary, remembering him as a visionary leader who made lasting contributions to India’s progress during a crucial period in the country’s history.

In a post on X, Prime Minister Modi said Rao made a mark as an able administrator and was a distinguished scholar with deep knowledge of India’s diverse culture.

Leaders Remember Architect of Economic Reforms

Defence Minister Rajnath Singh also paid tribute, describing P.V. Narasimha Rao as a visionary statesman whose leadership marked a defining phase in India’s economic journey.

Union Minister Nitin Gadkari remembered the Bharat Ratna awardee, while Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge highlighted Rao’s role in introducing landmark economic liberalisation reforms that accelerated growth, expanded opportunities for the middle class and laid the foundation for India’s long term development.

Kharge also noted Rao’s contributions to India’s nuclear programme and foreign policy, including the launch of the Look East policy.

Born on June 28, 1921, in Karimnagar, Telangana, P.V. Narasimha Rao studied at Osmania University, Bombay University and Nagpur University.

Before becoming Prime Minister, he served in several ministerial roles in the undivided Andhra Pradesh government and was Chief Minister from 1971 to 1973.

Rao served as India’s ninth Prime Minister from 1991 to 1996. Widely regarded as the architect of India’s economic liberalisation, he led the country through sweeping reforms that dismantled the Licence Raj and transformed the Indian economy.

His tenure also witnessed significant developments in foreign policy and strategic affairs, leaving a lasting impact on India’s modern growth story.
