Hyderabad, june 28 (Maxim News): The Hyderabad Disaster Response and Asset Protection Agency (HYDRA) has launched a large-scale drive to clear clogged stormwater drains and sewer lines across Hyderabad as part of its monsoon preparedness measures.
The operation is being carried out in coordination with the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC), Cantonment Municipal Corporation (CMC), and Malkajgiri Municipal Corporation (MMC) to ensure the free flow of rainwater and prevent urban flooding.
Truckloads of waste removed from drains
According to an official release, Disaster Response Force (DRF) teams have removed truckloads of waste that were obstructing stormwater drains and box drains over the past two days.
Using earthmovers and other equipment, the teams cleared cable wires, plastic waste, mattresses, pillows, blankets, sofas, chairs and other discarded household items from major drainage channels.
Officials said the Aghapura nala, which carries stormwater through Mehdipatnam, Mallepally and Vijayanagar Colony before joining the Musi River, had become heavily clogged. Near Darussalam, accumulated waste blocked the flow of water at a culvert. The obstruction has now been removed.
In another operation, HYDRA teams cleared a large bundle of cable wires found inside a box drain along the Miyapur to Patancheru road.
The agency said the cleaning drive will continue at vulnerable locations to improve drainage and reduce the risk of waterlogging during the monsoon season.
