PM Modi To Visit Tamil Nadu Today

New Delhi/Hyderabad, July 25, 2025 (Maxim News): Immediately after his UK and Maldives tour, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will land in Tuticorin on the evening of July 26 to lay foundation stones, inaugurate, and dedicate more than ₹4,800 crore worth of infrastructure projects. The following day, July 27, he will join festivities at the Aadi Thiruvathirai Festival, marking the birth anniversary of Emperor Rajendra Chola I, at Gangaikonda Cholapuram Temple, Tiruchirappalli.

July 26: Transforming Tuticorin’s Connectivity and Capacity

1. Tuticorin Airport New Terminal (₹450 crore)

  • Size & Capacity: 17,340 m² terminal to handle 1,350 peak-hour and 20 lakh annual passengers (future capacity: 1,800/25 lakh)
  • Green Features: GRIHA-4 rating, 100% LED lighting, energy-efficient E&M systems, on-site sewage treatment

2. Road Upgrades (Total: ~₹2,550 crore)

  • NH-36 Sethiyathope–Cholapuram (50 km, ₹2,350 crore): Four-laning with three bypasses, a 1‑km bridge over Kollidam River, four major bridges, seven flyovers—cutting travel time by 45 minutes
  • NH-138 Tuticorin Port Road (5.16 km, ₹200 crore): Six-laning with underpasses and bridges for smoother cargo movement

3. Port Expansion (₹285 crore)

  • V.O. Chidambaranar Port, North Cargo Berth–III: 6.96 MMTPA dry bulk handling capacity to boost trade efficiency

4. Railway Projects (~₹700 crore)

  • Electrification of Madurai–Bodinayakkanur (90 km) for greener travel
  • Doubling of Nagercoil Town–Kanniyakumari (21 km, ₹650 crore) and smaller sections (Aralvaymozhi–Nagercoil 12.87 km; Tirunelveli–Melappalayam 3.6 km) to ease passenger and freight flow

5. Power Transmission (₹550 crore)

  • ISTS for Kudankulam Units 3 & 4: 400 kV quad double-circuit line to Tuticorin-II GIS substation, strengthening the national grid and clean-energy distribution

July 27: Honoring a Millennium of Chola Brilliance

At Gangaikonda Cholapuram Temple, PM Modi will release a commemorative coin celebrating Rajendra Chola I’s 1,000-year maritime expedition to Southeast Asia and his founding of this UNESCO World Heritage Site. The Aadi Thiruvathirai Festival also pays tribute to Tamil Shaiva Bhakti and the 63 Nayanmars, marking the emperor’s birth star, Thiruvathirai (Ardra).
