Police constable dies in a misfire incident at Kabutar Khana Police Outpost

Hyderabad: A 30-year-old Telangana Police constable in Hyderabad died early Wednesday morning after he sustained an injury when his firearm accidentally misfired.

The deceased was identified as Bhupathi Srikanth, a native of the Suryapet district. The Telangana State Special Police (TSSP) head constable was the guard-in-charge at Kabutar Khana police outpost at Hussaini Alam.

According to the police, Srikanth was in the resting room when his service weapon allegedly misfired and he sustained one bullet injury, “The accident occurred around 3.30 am when he was sleeping with his carbine weapon beside him,” said additional Deputy Commissioner of Police (South) Syed Jahangeer.

Upon hearing the sound, colleagues reached the room to find him in a pool of blood, said the police. They provided first-aid and rushed him to Osmania General Hospital, where he passed away after three to four hours of treatment, added the police.
