New Delhi: Two-time Olympic medallist PV Sindhu has opened up about her close bond with Indian cricket star Virat Kohli, describing him as a “brother” and recalling the advice he gave her during one of the toughest phases of her career.

Virat Kohli Told Sindhu to ‘Just Show ups

Sindhu recalled meeting Kohli at a time when she was struggling with her form and confidence. She told the cricketer that “nothing is happening”, prompting Kohli to offer simple but powerful advice.

“He is like my brother, I must say,” Sindhu said, recalling their conversation.

According to the badminton star, Kohli encouraged her to keep showing up for matches and training, play her natural game and trust the preparation she had already put in.

He told her to go out, play her game and show the world what she was capable of.

Sindhu said the conversation changed the way she viewed the difficult period in her career.

“I think it hit me and I think that conversation completely changed my perspective,” she recalled.

Sindhu Shares Her Achievements With Kohli

Sindhu also spoke about how she and Kohli remain in touch.

She said she shares her victories and moments of happiness with the former India captain. She also said she values the opportunity to learn from Kohli’s experience and approach to sport.

Sindhu praised the way Kohli continues to perform under pressure and described his achievements as something to admire.

The badminton star said meeting someone who has achieved so much gives her an opportunity to understand “the way he thinks” and how he approaches competition.

Sindhu Begins World Championships Campaign With Win

Sindhu’s comments came while she was competing at the BWF World Championships in New Delhi.

The five-time World Championships medallist began her campaign with a commanding victory over Ireland’s Sophia Noble in the women’s singles Round of 64.

Sindhu won the match 21-7, 21-11 to advance to the next round.

Both Sindhu and Kohli have established themselves among India’s most prominent sporting figures. Their friendship offers a glimpse into the personal connections that exist between athletes from different sporting disciplines.
