Hyderabad: Rahul Gandhi PS scam has surfaced after police arrested a man for posing as a personal secretary to Rahul Gandhi and cheating political leaders of lakhs. The accused targeted aspirants by promising party posts.
Dehradun Police arrested the accused, identified as Gaurav Kumar from Amritsar, during Operation Prahar. He allegedly impersonated Rahul Gandhi’s aide and collected money from multiple victims across states.
Rahul Gandhi PS scam targets political aspirants
The Rahul Gandhi PS scam came to light after a complaint by Bhavana Pandey. She alleged that the accused contacted her using the name of Kanishk Singh and promised a senior party role. Subsequently, he sent an associate to her residence and collected Rs 25 lakh. However, he later switched off his phone and disappeared.
Following her complaint at Rajpur police station on May 3, police launched an investigation. They tracked the accused using technical evidence and arrested him.
Investigators found that the accused used Truecaller to create fake profiles. Therefore, he convinced victims by displaying names linked to Congress leadership. Moreover, he collected data of political aspirants from online platforms before targeting them.
Police revealed that he cheated leaders in Rajasthan, Bihar, and Uttarakhand. In Jaipur, he reportedly collected Rs 1.90 crore from one leader and Rs 12 lakh from another. Similarly, he extorted Rs 3 lakh from a leader in Patna.
Meanwhile, three associates identified as Chajju, Rajat Mada, and Maninder Singh Kalu remain absconding. Police seized two mobile phones and a data dongle from the accused.
Authorities registered a case under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and launched a detailed probe. Officials said many victims have not come forward due to fear of reputational damage.
