Uttam Kumar Reddy strongly condemned Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s constant criticism of the Nehru-Gandhi family, emphasizing that their sacrifices for India should be respected. Speaking at the “Meet the Press” program organized by the Telangana Union of Working Journalists (TUWJ) at Basheerbagh Press Club, Uttam Kumar Reddy declared that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) would not succeed in destabilizing the Congress-led government in Telangana. He compared his government to a strong cricket team: “Chief Minister Revanth Reddy, Deputy Chief Minister Bhatti Vikramarka, and other cabinet members form a robust 11-member cricket team. We are running a stable government and would complete our full term without any hurdles. The BJP has a habit of demolishing elected governments in an undemocratic manner, but in Telangana, their games won’t work. No one can destabilise our government, and we will give a stable and competent government for five years“.

Uttam Kumar Reddy criticized the Modi government for undermining the parliamentary system, pointing out that it had suspended many MPs without proper cause and passed important bills without due debate. He remarked that Prime Minister Narendra Modi had transformed India into a “Banana Republic.” He also expressed fear that parliamentary democracy would be at risk if the BJP retained power.

He noted that none of Modi’s promises, including the provision of Minimum Support Price (MSP) and housing for all by 2022, had been fully implemented. He criticized the Modi government for selling public sector enterprises to private companies and attempting to divide the country along communal lines.

Uttam Kumar Reddy asserted that the BJP had no moral right to ask for votes in Telangana. He cited unfulfilled promises in the Andhra Pradesh Reorganization Act, including a railway coach factory in Qazipet, a steel plant in Bayyaram, and a tribal university. He added that the cancellation of the Information Technology Investment Region (ITIR) from Hyderabad further underscored the BJP’s neglect of the state.

Regarding the BRS, Uttam Kumar Reddy predicted that it would cease to exist after the Lok Sabha elections, claiming it would not win a single seat. He suggested that “BRS would soon take VRS,” indicating that the BRS might as well take voluntary retirement. He mentioned that hundreds of BRS workers had already joined the Congress, with more expected to follow after the elections.

He criticized former Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao for destroying Telangana’s irrigation and power sectors, urging him to apologize to the public for the Kaleswaram issue. He argued that the Pranahita Chevella Project, designed initially to irrigate about 16 lakh acres through gravity, had been shifted, renamed, and redesigned as the Kaleswaram Project, wasting public funds. He called for an apology from KCR to the people regarding the Kaleswaram project, stating, “We don’t need your free advice, KCR. We will proceed according to expert recommendations regarding the damages to Medigadda and other barrages.”

He revealed that the government had received an interim report from the National Dam Safety Authority (NDSA) and would follow its recommendations. He noted that the final report was expected within 10-15 days. Additionally, he said the interim report from the Vigilance Enquiry had already been received. Still, the final report was delayed due to the sudden death of Rajeev Ratan, the Director General of Vigilance and Enforcement. He mentioned that the new Director General would submit the report soon. The Judicial Commission, which was constituted to investigate the Kaleswaram issue, had started its work, and the government would take action based on the commission’s findings.

Speaking about the Agniveer scheme, Uttam Kumar Reddy, a retired Indian Air Force fighter pilot, criticized the initiative, stating it was not in the national interest. He said Modi caused significant damage to the country’s defence, mentioning that China had invaded about 2,000 km into Indian territory. He also recalled the martyrdom of 20 soldiers, including Colonel Santosh Babu, during a conflict with the Chinese army in the Galwan Valley. Uttam Kumar Reddy argued that India, given its geographic position with threats from China and Pakistan on its borders, needs a strong army, and the Agniveer scheme undermined national security.

To address financial challenges, a cabinet sub-committee comprising Uttam Kumar Reddy, Bhatti Vikramarka, and Sridhar Babu was formed to suggest measures for increasing the state’s financial resources. Uttam Kumar Reddy also committed to providing Rythu Bharosa to all deserving farmers. He stated that support would be extended to farmers who lost crops due to untimely rains. He mentioned that wet grain was being purchased at MSP at all procurement centres and that farmers would begin receiving a bonus of Rs. 500 from their next crop. He also assured that all pending projects in the Mahabubnagar district would be completed within five years.

He predicted that Congress would win 14-15 Lok Sabha seats and achieve a significant majority in Nalgonda.
