Rahul Gandhi’s ‘Janudhari Brahmin’ Claim Questioned By Ramachandra Rao Amid Row Over BC Identity Politics

Hyderabad, July 26 (Maxim News): Telangana BJP Chief N. Ramachandra Rao launched a scathing attack on both Chief Minister Revanth Reddy and Congress MP Rahul Gandhi, questioning the latter’s claim of being a ‘Janudhari Brahmin’ despite having a Parsi grandfather and a Catholic mother. The remarks were made during an informal interaction with the media, where Rao also slammed the Congress party’s stance on Backward Class (BC) reservations.

“While Rahul Gandhi positions himself as a sacred thread-wearing Brahmin, Prime Minister Narendra Modi is derogatorily called a ‘converted BC’. How is this logical?” Rao questioned, accusing the Congress of hypocrisy and vote-bank politics.

“Converted BC” a Fabricated Concept: BJP Leader

Taking a dig at CM Revanth Reddy, Rao alleged that the Chief Minister might be “hallucinating a new social category” with his recent use of the term “converted BC.” He warned that such statements not only undermine PM Modi’s identity but also insult lakhs of people belonging to the OBC category, many of whom have been recognized through legitimate state commission processes.

BJP Slams Congress for Playing Politics with BC Reservations

Rao accused the Congress of trying to mislead BC communities through its recent ordinance on 42% BC reservations, which he termed unconstitutional due to the Supreme Court’s 50% cap on reservations. He said while BJP supports the idea of enhanced BC representation, it must be done within constitutional limits and through proper legal channels.

“The Congress should stop giving false hope to BCs. Judicial scrutiny will not spare political gimmicks disguised as policy,” he said.

BJP: Not Anti-Muslim, But Opposed to Religion-Based Reservations

Clarifying BJP’s stance, Rao said the party is against religion-based quotas, but not against Muslims. “Muslims already benefit from BC-E and EWS reservations. What Congress wants is an additional 10% based purely on religion, which is unconstitutional,” he argued.

He also reminded that it was the Modi-led BJP government that gave constitutional status to the OBC Commission, and pointed out that the party has consistently provided more political and administrative opportunities to BCs, SCs, STs, and minorities compared to the Congress.

Ramachandra Rao Challenges Revanth Reddy’s Commitment to BCs

Escalating his rhetoric, Rao dared CM Revanth Reddy to prove his commitment to BC empowerment by resigning and making Minister Ponnam Prabhakar or Telangana PCC Chief the Chief Minister.

“Backing Bandaru Dattatreya for the Vice President post is fine, but if Revanth truly supports BCs, let him walk the talk,” Rao added.
