Hyderabad, May 10: Telangana has been witnessing unusual weather conditions over the past week with scorching daytime heat followed by evening thunderstorms and rain in several districts.
According to Hyderabad Meteorological Department, thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and gusty winds are likely to continue across the state for the next 48 hours.
The weather department issued a yellow alert for several districts and advised people to remain cautious during thunderstorm activity.
Officials said rain is likely in districts including Adilabad, Mancherial, Jayashankar Bhupalpally, Mulugu, Bhadradri Kothagudem, Khammam, Nalgonda, Suryapet and Hyderabad.
Strong winds with speeds of 30 to 40 kmph may accompany the rain. Therefore, officials warned people to stay alert during lightning activity and avoid standing under trees or near electric poles.
Heatwave likely after rain activity ends
Despite the rainfall forecast, weather officials said daytime temperatures are expected to remain high across Telangana.
The department noted that humidity levels are increasing before rainfall activity, leading to severe discomfort and humid conditions during afternoons.
Officials further stated that the rain activity may gradually reduce after the next two days.
However, temperatures are likely to rise sharply afterward. Weather experts warned that maximum temperatures could touch 43 to 45 degrees Celsius in several districts during the coming days.
Authorities advised people to avoid unnecessary travel during peak afternoon hours and drink sufficient water to prevent heat related illnesses.
