Ramachandra Rao Slams BRS for Threatening Media Freedom, Demands Protection for Journalists
Hyderabad, July 7 (Maxim News): BJP Telangana President N. Ramachandra Rao has strongly condemned the alleged threats and attacks by BRS supporters on media institutions, particularly targeting ABN-Andhra Jyothy. He expressed concern over reports that BRS cadres may attempt attacks on the media group, warning that such actions pose a direct threat to freedom of the press.
In a strongly-worded statement, Ramachandra Rao said, “The people have already rejected BRS in the elections, yet their leadership continues to behave irresponsibly. Attacking media institutions is not only unlawful but also deeply undemocratic.”
He called on the state government to immediately ensure protection for all media outlets, stating that freedom of the press is a cornerstone of democracy and must be safeguarded at all costs.
Ramachandra Rao also instructed the BJP’s youth wing (BJYM) to be on alert and support media personnel if any untoward incidents occur. He clarified that the BJP welcomes constructive criticism and respects journalistic freedom, asserting that any grievances against media reporting should be addressed through legal channels, not violence.
“We may not agree with everything that’s written, but we will never condone attacks. If there are errors, we’ll respond legally. But if violence continues, BJP will not remain silent,” Rao warned.
In a direct message to BRS, he added, “If media institutions are attacked again, you will see the end of your own media outlets like T News. This is not a threat—it’s a warning in defense of democracy.”
He reaffirmed that BJP stands for press freedom, rule of law, and peaceful redressal of disputes, contrasting it with what he described as the increasingly aggressive and intolerant approach of BRS.
