Hyderabad, June 1 (Maxim News): Telangana Chief Minister Revanth Reddy on Monday directed officials to take advance measures to protect the state’s water resources and strengthen monsoon preparedness.
He stressed the need for close coordination with upstream states to secure Telangana’s rightful share of Krishna and Godavari river waters.
Reviewing monsoon preparedness at the Secretariat, the Chief Minister said forecasts indicate possible drought conditions due to the El Niño effect.
Therefore, he asked the Irrigation Department to immediately engage with Maharashtra and Karnataka and ensure interstate waters are released on a pro rata basis.
Revanth Reddy said Telangana could face difficulties if upstream states release water only after filling their own reservoirs. Hence, officials must formulate a clear strategy well before the monsoon season.
Focus on Water Security, Agriculture and Disaster Preparedness
The Chief Minister directed officials to explore a potential arrangement involving Maharashtra’s Koyna Dam. Under the proposal, Telangana could utilize available water while supplying the required electricity to Maharashtra.
He also sought a detailed report on Telangana’s share of power generated from the Sileru and Tungabhadra projects.

Expressing concern over thousands of TMCs of Godavari water flowing into the sea every year, Revanth Reddy instructed officials to prepare a long term plan to divert and utilize floodwaters from the Godavari and Pranahita rivers.
He said effective floodwater management would strengthen irrigation and water security across the state.
Meanwhile, the Chief Minister ordered immediate completion of repairs and maintenance works on dam gates before the onset of heavy rains. Referring to past issues at the Kadem Project, he warned that officials would face strict action if any dam safety concerns emerge during the monsoon.
Officials informed him that the government had already released Rs. 300 crore for dam maintenance. However, he assured that additional funds would be sanctioned whenever necessary.
On the agriculture front, Revanth Reddy instructed officials to promote crop diversification and encourage farmers to adopt crops that require less water.
He asked the Agriculture Department to use AI based videos, Rythu Vedikas and television campaigns to create awareness among farmers. He also directed officials to ensure adequate supplies of quality seeds and fertilizers ahead of the cultivation season.
Furthermore, the Chief Minister announced that the Telangana government would write to the Centre seeking allocation of the entire urea production from the Ramagundam fertilizer plant to the state.
Revanth Reddy also reviewed the implementation of assurances given during his visits to flood affected districts, including Khammam, Warangal and Kamareddy.
He sought a detailed report on pending commitments and warned officials against delays in executing government promises.
The Chief Minister instructed authorities to respond quickly during natural disasters and ensure immediate compensation to affected families. He directed officials to register FIRs promptly in cases involving loss of life, property or livestock and facilitate relief without delay.
Additionally, he ordered the utilization of Disaster Management funds for repairing damaged roads, reconstructing bridges and restoring public infrastructure.
In Hyderabad and the surrounding urban region, Revanth Reddy emphasized measures to prevent waterlogging during heavy rainfall. Officials informed him that 11 water harvesting wells had already been completed at identified flood prone locations. The Chief Minister instructed agencies to expedite the remaining works and monitor progress regularly.
He also directed municipal commissioners and police commissioners of Hyderabad, Cyberabad and Malkajgiri to work in close coordination during the monsoon season. Moreover, he stressed that no region in Telangana should face drinking water shortages, even if rainfall remains below normal.
The Chief Minister instructed the Power Department to stock emergency equipment and respond swiftly to transformer failures and power disruptions caused by storms or heavy rains. He said uninterrupted power supply remains critical during the monsoon period.
Finally, Revanth Reddy directed district Collectors and Superintendents of Police to hold regular coordination meetings. He said stronger cooperation among revenue, police, health, electricity, panchayat raj and urban development departments would help resolve public issues quickly and improve disaster response across Telangana.
Senior officials, including Chief Secretary K. Ramakrishna Rao, DGP C.V. Anand, MP Vem Narender Reddy and senior officers from various departments, attended the review meeting.
