- Harish Rao questions rice export process, tenders and losses
- BRS MLA targets govt over Philippines rice shipment issue
Hyderabad, March 23: Rice Transport Scam allegations were raised in the Legislative Assembly as BRS MLA and former minister Harish Rao questioned the government over the process of rice transportation. He criticised Minister Uttam Kumar Reddy and accused him of giving misleading statements on the issue.
Speaking during the Question Hour, Harish Rao alleged that there was a scam in sending rice to the Philippines. He raised several questions about the process followed by the government. He also objected to the appointment of Premchand Garg as an advisor, citing that he has CBI and EED cases. He asked the government to clarify his current status.
Rice Transport Scam raises questions on tenders and port handling
Harish Rao further questioned the procedures followed in the rice export process. He asked, “Were tenders called for rice export? Why was it given to a private company through a nomination method without giving permission to NAFED? It is true that there are 7,500 tons of rice in Kakinada port? Are warehouse and maintenance charges being paid at that port? Or not? There was a scam in rice transportation. This caused loss to the government exchequer. A house committee should be formed on this issue and I should also be made a member,” Harish Rao demanded.
Meanwhile, the issue of rice stocks at Kakinada port also came under focus. Harish Rao questioned whether warehouse and maintenance charges are being paid. He suggested that improper handling may have caused financial loss. Therefore, he pressed for clarity on the management of rice stocks and related expenses.
He also demanded the formation of a House Committee to investigate the matter. He insisted on being included as a member of the committee. The demand highlights the seriousness of the allegations raised during the Assembly session. The government is yet to respond in detail to the issues raised in the House.
