Riyaz encounter: Human rights forum seeks HC probe
Riyaz encounter | Hyderabad, Oct 21: The alleged encounter of rowdy sheeter Shaik Riyaz, the key accused in the Nizamabad constable Pramod murder case, has triggered widespread calls for an independent judicial inquiry.
Human rights activists have demanded that the Telangana High Court order an investigation to be conducted by a sitting judge, following intense public debate across the state.
Police sources confirmed that Riyaz’s last rites were performed early this morning after the postmortem concluded around 2 a.m. His body was handed over to family members, who conducted the funeral immediately after its release.

The incident has drawn significant attention as it followed a sequence of violent events involving the accused.
On October 17, Riyaz was taken into police custody in connection with a vehicle theft case.
While being transported to the police station, he reportedly attacked CCS constable Pramod with a knife, resulting in the officer’s death.
Later, Riyaz was apprehended and admitted to the hospital’s prisoners’ ward for treatment. According to police accounts, he allegedly attempted to escape again. During this attempt, he grabbed a constable’s weapon and tried to pull the trigger.
Officers then opened fire in what they described as an act of self-defense, leading to Riyaz’s death.
Meanwhile, the Human Rights Forum (HRF) has demanded that the encounter be investigated under judicial supervision.
HRF state president Athram Bhujangarao and general secretary Dr. S. Tirupathayya urged the High Court and the Telangana Human Rights Commission to take up the case suo motu.

They said, “The encounter should be examined by a sitting judge, and those who violate the law, no matter their rank, must face legal punishment.”
The forum also appealed to suspend the police personnel involved in the encounter immediately and file murder charges against them if found guilty.
The HRF stated that transparency in law enforcement is essential to protect public trust. It asserted that justice must prevail through lawful means, and all officials involved should be held accountable under due process.
