Hyderabad, June 10 (Maxim News) : Farmers from Tujalpur and Tirmalapur villages in Narsapur mandal of Medak district have alleged that they are yet to receive compensation for land acquired for the Regional Ring Road (RRR) project. The affected farmers say they have been waiting for payment despite completing all official procedures related to land acquisition.
According to the farmers, the government acquired nearly 70 acres of land spread across several survey numbers, beginning from Survey No. 224/22, for the RRR project. Revenue officials reportedly issued notices to landowners, conducted award proceedings, and even prepared compensation calculations before the acquisition process was completed.
However, when compensation payments were due, officials informed the farmers that the acquired land falls under forest land limits. The development shocked dozens of families who had expected compensation after surrendering their land for the major infrastructure project.
The affected farmers have questioned how the land could suddenly be classified as forest land after being cultivated for decades. They said their families have been farming the land since 1954 and have received various government benefits linked to the same properties.
According to the farmers, they obtained crop loans, tractor loans, agricultural subsidies, Rythu Bandhu assistance, Kisan Samman Nidhi benefits, and loan waivers on these lands over the years. They argue that if the land truly belonged to the forest department, government agencies should not have extended these benefits for decades.
The farmers said they possess revenue records and pahanis related to the land. They also questioned why authorities failed to identify the land status before initiating acquisition proceedings.
The farmers claim that nearly 80 landowners from the two villages have not received compensation. They allege that authorities released payments to several other affected landowners while keeping their cases pending.
They further stated that revenue officials conducted meetings and completed award-related procedures before land acquisition. Therefore, they questioned why compensation is now being withheld.
Many of the affected landowners belong to tribal communities and depend entirely on agriculture for their livelihood. Local residents said the government must ensure that tribal farmers do not suffer due to administrative lapses.
Several farmers said they made financial commitments after officials assured them that compensation would be released. One farmer stated that he borrowed money and established a poultry farm expecting the compensation amount to arrive soon. However, the continued delay has pushed him into financial distress.
The farmers said they are struggling to repay loans and manage household expenses after losing their agricultural land.
On Tuesday, the affected farmers visited the Narsapur Revenue Divisional Officer (RDO) office seeking clarification and a solution. However, they returned disappointed after learning that the RDO was unavailable.
The farmers said they do not know where to take their grievance. They maintained that they have cultivated the land for more than seven decades and cannot accept the sudden claim that it belongs to the forest department.
They urged the Telangana government and district administration to intervene immediately and release the pending compensation. The farmers warned that continued delays are causing severe hardship to families that depend solely on agriculture for their survival.
They also demanded that officials resolve the land classification issue at the earliest and ensure justice for all affected farmers whose lands were acquired for the Regional Ring Road project. (Maxim News)
