SAIL Fuels Zojila Tunnel with Over 31,000 Tonnes of Steel, Strengthening Its Role in Nation-Building

Hyderabad, July 20 (Maxim News): In a remarkable contribution to India’s strategic infrastructure, Steel Authority of India Limited (SAIL) has emerged as the largest steel supplier to the Zojila Tunnel, India’s longest under-construction road tunnel and Asia’s longest bi-directional tunnel. With more than 31,000 tonnes of steel supplied — including TMT Re-bars, Structurals, and Plates — SAIL continues to demonstrate its central role in building the nation’s backbone.

The Zojila Tunnel, stretching over 30 kilometers through the treacherous Himalayan terrain at an altitude of 11,578 feet, is a critical part of the Srinagar-Kargil-Leh National Highway. Upon its completion in 2027, the tunnel will offer year-round, all-weather connectivity between Srinagar and Leh, significantly boosting both civilian and military mobility in Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh.

SAIL’s Enduring Commitment to Infrastructure Development

As a Maharatna Public Sector Undertaking, SAIL’s partnership in this ambitious project reinforces its status as India’s most trusted steelmaker. The consistent supply of high-grade steel for the Zojila Tunnel mirrors SAIL’s longstanding legacy in nation-building. The company’s products are known for their strength, reliability, and quality — making them the material of choice for iconic mega-projects.
