Salaam Cola: The Beverage That Stands for the Palestinian Cause

Hyderabad, April 21 (Maxim News)Salaam Cola, a new soft drink brand started in the UK in November 2023, is making headlines for more than just its taste. Created by 26-year-old Aykiz Shah, the drink is part of a growing movement to support the Palestinian cause.

Unlike big brands like Coca-Cola, Salaam Cola promises to donate 10% of its profits to charities that help Palestinians. The drink is made in Turkey and has a smooth fizz, a hint of earthy spices, and is sweetened with natural cane sugar instead of high-fructose corn syrup.

The idea behind Salaam Cola grew out of rising concerns over Coca-Cola’s operations in the Atarot Settlement Industrial Zone in East Jerusalem—a location that many international groups say is an illegal Israeli settlement. Because of this, some people have started looking for brands that reflect their values.

In just a few months, Salaam Cola has expanded to 14 countries across four continents. It’s quickly becoming popular with people who want to support a good cause while enjoying a refreshing drink.

In the US, several Pakistani street food cafés and other restaurants have started selling Salaam Cola. For many of them, it’s not just about the flavor—it’s also a way to show support for Palestinians.

Other drinks like Cola Gaza and Palestine Drinks have followed Salaam Cola’s example, also donating part of their profits to Palestinian charities. These new brands show how more and more people are using their buying power to make a difference.

“As a mother and a woman in hijab working in a male-dominated field, I wanted to show that you don’t have to give up your values to build something meaningful,” said Shah in an earlier interview. “Salaam Cola is more than just a drink—it’s a way to do good around the world.” (Maxim News)
