Science Day fete: 13 children given cash awards
Hyderabad: With a view to orient the student community towards Science and its various facets and also to enlighten them with the importance of Science in the modern age as well as to make them know about the benefits of Scientific and Technological Development, Telangana State Council of Science & Technology (TSCOST) arranged several activities on the occasion of National Science Day Celebrations on Tuesday.
A Science Walk was organized around the NTR Stadium in which some 3,800 students and teachers from several schools in the city participated. Thirteen Child Scientists, who participated in the National Children’s Science Congress (NCSC), 2016 at Baramati, were presented with a cash prize of Rs 5,000 each with the sponsorship from UCO Bank.
Participating as the chief guest, Y. Nagesh Kumar, Member-Secretary, TSCOST motivated the students to pursue science as their career choice and emulate great scientists like Sir CV Raman, Dr APJ Abdul Kalam, Har Gobind Khurana and other eminent scientists.
D.R. Sharma, Zonal Manager, UCO Bank; Dr Marella Nagaraju, former Principal Scientist, Central Rice Research Institute, who were guests of honour, advised the students to develop scientific temper and engage themselves in scientific research activities from the beginning.
The event was coordinated by RAISE, a science-based NGO of Hyderabad with support from TSCOST, Tourism, Culture and Survey of India Departments. K. Chanti Babu, general secretary, RAISE thanked the government for its support.
Commemorating the success of ISRO in the record-breaking launch of 104 satellites into Orbit through PSLV C-37 on February 15, TSCOST initiated an Exhibition on 104 to Space with posters on Space Science, ISRO’s success stories, Benefits of Satellites and Launch Vehicles and that of Space Exploration in order to sensitise the students about the science of space. The exhibition was organized in 104 Government Schools in Hyderabad, Ranga Reddy and Medak districts from Tuesday.
The event is being coordinated by N. Raghunandan Kumar, Founder-Secretary, Planetary Society, India, a science-based NGO of Hyderabad with support from TSCOST and SCERT.
