New Delhi, Oct. 7: Delhi Police have registered an FIR against Congress leaders Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi Vadra over their alleged unauthorised entry into Akashvani Bhawan during an INDIA bloc protest against the Special Intensive Revision of electoral rolls.
Congress General Secretary Jairam Ramesh criticised the FIR and defended the Opposition’s protest. He alleged that Rahul Gandhi had been highlighting what Congress calls a “vote chori” conspiracy linked to electoral roll revisions.
Ramesh said the Special Intensive Revision had affected genuine voters, according to the Congress. He described the protest led by Rahul Gandhi as an attempt to highlight what the party considers irregularities in the process.

The FIR followed Tuesday’s INDIA bloc march from Parliament towards the Election Commission headquarters in New Delhi. Police stopped the protesters near Akashvani Bhawan and detained several Opposition leaders.
Rahul Gandhi, Priyanka Gandhi Vadra and other Congress leaders later entered the Akashvani Bhawan premises and staged a sit-in. They demanded action over the electoral roll revision and sought the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar.
Police officials said the leaders entered the premises without permission. The Gandhis and other protesters were detained after remaining there for several hours and were later released.
Ramesh called the action against the leaders an FIR following their “Satyagraha” over SIR. His comments reflect the Congress party’s position on the electoral roll revision and the subsequent police action.
