New Delhi, July 17: Skyroot Aerospace will launch its first orbital rocket, Vikram 1, from Sriharikota on Saturday under Mission Aagaman. The mission will carry a handwritten postcard by Prime Minister Narendra Modi along with technical payloads and hundreds of handwritten messages from India’s space community.
Prime Minister Modi has written “Vande Mataram” on the postcard. The mission will also carry handwritten postcards from current and former ISRO chairpersons, Indian astronauts, Skyroot team members, investors, policymakers, and well wishers.
Vikram 1 Mission Marks India’s Private Space Milestone
The Vikram 1 mission is India’s first private orbital rocket launch from Indian soil. The rocket stands about the height of a seven storey building and features carbon composite rocket engines manufactured using 3D printing technology.
Vikram 1 can carry payloads of up to 350 kilograms into low Earth orbit. Skyroot previously demonstrated its launch capability by successfully testing the Vikram S rocket in November 2022. The company now aims to achieve its first full orbital mission with Vikram 1.
The mission will also carry miniature artwork honouring three eminent Indian scientists. Micro artist Ajay Kumar Mattewada has created an 18 carat gold miniature rocket featuring sculptures of Sir C V Raman, Dr Vikram Sarabhai, and Dr A P J Abdul Kalam.
Skyroot said the tribute recognises the contributions of the three pioneers to India’s scientific and space programmes while marking a significant milestone in the country’s growing private space sector.
