Hyderabad, Sept. 12: Telangana IT and Industries Minister D. Sridhar Babu said Hyderabad is crucial to the state’s economic progress.
Speaking in the Assembly on Saturday, he said the government aims to decentralise Hyderabad’s administration.
He said the city needs a governance system designed for its growth over the next 20 to 30 years.
The minister said administration should become more accessible, efficient and technology driven.
He said these goals form the main objective of the CURE Act 2026.
Hyderabad’s Economic Growth Drives Telangana’s Future
Sridhar Babu said Hyderabad has evolved into a world class metropolis over 400 years.
He highlighted its growth from the Charminar area to HITEC City and the Financial District.
The minister said Hyderabad now has a population of more than one crore.
He said the city has become a hub for IT, pharmaceuticals, biotechnology, aerospace, defence and life sciences.
Hyderabad also has major data centres and global capability centres, he added.
Sridhar Babu said Telangana aims to become a trillion dollar economy by 2034.
He said the state also targets a three trillion dollar economy by 2047.
The minister said Hyderabad must develop modern infrastructure to support these goals.
He said better infrastructure should also create more jobs and improve living standards.
Sridhar Babu said Hyderabad is not only competing with other major Indian cities.
He described the metropolis as a key growth engine for Telangana’s economy.
He said Telangana’s GSDP reached around Rs 17.82 lakh crore in 2025-26.
This represented a 10.7 percent increase from Rs 16.09 lakh crore the previous year.
He said Hyderabad, Ranga Reddy and Medchal Malkajgiri rank among the state’s top three districts in economic output.
The minister said the CURE region covers a smaller area but has a major economic role.
He said Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy held several reviews before developing the new administrative approach.
The government also consulted officials, experts and other stakeholders, he added.
Sridhar Babu said Hyderabad has expanded towards the Outer Ring Road.
He said the government plans a special executive system for areas within the ORR.
The system will coordinate water supply, sewage, transport, traffic and flood management.
It will also address waste management and environmental protection, he said.
The minister said the government aims to build a faster and more transparent administration.
He said the new system will help Hyderabad meet the future needs of its growing population.
