Hyderabad, August 9: Flood inflows into the Srisailam reservoir have declined, with 36,233 cusecs reaching the project from Jurala on Sunday.
The reservoir’s current water level stands at 878.20 feet. Its full reservoir level is 885 feet.
The project currently holds about 178 TMC of water against its full storage capacity of 215 TMC.
Meanwhile, authorities are generating power at the project. They are also releasing 38,369 cusecs of water downstream towards Nagarjuna Sagar.
The latest figures indicate a reduction in inflows compared with the higher flood flows recorded earlier. However, the reservoir continues to hold substantial water as downstream releases remain in progress.
Srisailam manages inflows and downstream releases
Officials are monitoring the inflows from the Krishna river system as water levels remain below the full reservoir mark.
The water reaching Srisailam from Jurala forms a key part of the current inflow into the reservoir. Any further change in upstream rainfall could affect the inflow levels.
At present, authorities are balancing reservoir storage, power generation and downstream water releases.
The 38,369 cusecs release towards Nagarjuna Sagar will help regulate the water level at Srisailam. Officials are expected to continue monitoring the situation as inflows change.
The reservoir’s storage remains significantly below its maximum capacity. Further rainfall in the upstream catchment areas could again increase inflows into Srisailam.
Authorities are closely watching the project levels and river flows as the monsoon season continues.
