Hyderabad, August 9: Hyderabad has recorded only 58.41 per cent digitisation under the Special Intensive Revision process.
The figure remains below 60 per cent despite two extensions to the enumeration deadline. The current deadline ends on August 10.
Officials now see little scope for Hyderabad to cross the 60 per cent mark. The slow progress also highlights the challenge of updating voter records in the city.
Many Hyderabad residents migrated from other districts for jobs and employment. A significant number continue to maintain links with their native places.
As a result, several migrants prefer to retain their voter registration in their hometowns. Only those who have settled permanently in Hyderabad and cut ties with their native places seek local registration.
Hyderabad trails other districts in SIR
The SIR deadline initially ran until July 25. Officials later extended it to August 3 because enumeration and digitisation progressed slowly.
The deadline received another extension to August 10. However, officials said the additional time has not produced a major increase in Hyderabad’s digitisation rate.
Hyderabad district recorded 58.41 per cent digitisation as of Saturday. This placed it at the bottom among Telangana’s 33 districts.
Medchal Malkajgiri followed with 63.79 per cent. Rangareddy recorded 64.82 per cent.
Meanwhile, most other districts have reached much higher levels of digitisation. Several districts have already crossed 90 per cent.
The gap reflects the different voter patterns between Hyderabad and rural districts. Large numbers of city residents have moved from other parts of Telangana.
Officials have also faced difficulties in collecting enumeration forms from voters. Some electors have not returned forms despite repeated efforts by Booth Level Officers.
The low participation has added pressure on election officials. They must complete the remaining work before the August 10 deadline.
Officials now believe another extension may not significantly improve the city’s figures. The final SIR data will show how many Hyderabad residents retain their voter registration in the city.
