Hyderabad: The Union Government has issued strict directions to petrol pumps across the country to stop selling petrol loose in containers such as bottles and cans. Officials said the move aims to address safety concerns and also counter rumors about a possible fuel shortage.

Authorities clarified that there is no shortage of fuel. They said petrol and diesel stocks remain sufficient at all retail outlets nationwide. Therefore, people do not need to worry or rush to store fuel.

Meanwhile, the Union Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas issued the advisory after noticing a violation at a petrol outlet. Officials said they recently found that a customer received petrol in a loose container at a retail outlet in Tamil Nadu. According to the ministry, this practice clearly violates safety norms.

The ministry said it took immediate action after the incident. Authorities suspended the petrol pump license with immediate effect. They also initiated action against the management responsible for the violation. Officials stressed that such incidents must not happen again.
