The Liberian flagged oil tanker Shenlong Suezmax reached the Mumbai port on Wednesday morning. The vessel left the Ras Tanura Shipyard in Saudi Arabia on March 1. It carried 1,35,335 metric tonnes of crude oil to India. Despite the tense situation in the region, the tanker managed to cross the Strait of Hormuz and arrive safely.

Meanwhile, tensions in the Middle East have remained high following attacks involving the US, Israel, and Iran. In response to the situation, Iran imposed restrictions on the crucial Strait of Hormuz. It also threatened to attack ships passing through the route without its permission. As a result, several oil tankers and cargo ships have remained blocked on both sides of the strait.

However, the Shenlong Suezmax managed to navigate the route during these difficult conditions. Reports said the tanker escaped missile and drone attacks while passing through the Iranian controlled waters. Later, it continued its journey and safely reached India.

At the same time, Iran reportedly launched missile attacks on oil tankers of several countries, including the United States. These incidents increased concerns over the safety of shipping routes in the Gulf region. The Strait of Hormuz is one of the most important global routes for oil transport. Therefore, any disruption in this passage directly affects international oil supply.

Despite these tensions, the Liberian tanker successfully crossed the Strait and reached the Jawaharlal Nehru Terminal at Mumbai Port on Wednesday morning. The arrival of this tanker is seen as a relief for India, especially during the current oil crisis. The successful voyage also highlights the risks faced by commercial vessels operating in the region during periods of geopolitical conflict.
