Sultan Bazar Police Crack Cash Transit Theft Case Within 48 Hours

Hyderabad, May 22 (Maxim News): The Sultan Bazar Police solved a major cash in transit theft case within 48 hours and arrested a driver accused of escaping with more than Rs.9.63 lakh cash from a security vehicle in Hyderabad.

Police recovered most of the stolen money along with other evidence from the accused in Karnataka.

The accused was identified as Shaik Rahman, 46, a resident of Hasmathpet in Bowenpally, Hyderabad. He was working as a car driver with Cleared Security Services Private Ltd (CSS), a private company engaged in cash collection and ATM cash transit operations.

According to police, the incident took place on May 19, 2026, at around 2.20 pm near SBI Main Branch at Bank Street in Koti. Cash custodian Gaddam Mallesh, another custodian, a gunman, and driver Shaik Rahman had gone on cash collection duty in a white Toyota Innova Crysta vehicle bearing registration number TG11UC0180.

The team collected cash from several business establishments including D Mart and Mangalya Shopping Mall before reaching the SBI branch to deposit the collections.

Police said the custodians entered the bank carrying part of the collected cash while Rs.19 lakh remained inside the vehicle in five cash bags. During that time, the gunman briefly stepped away to use a washroom.

Investigators stated that the accused took advantage of the security lapse and fled with the vehicle carrying the cash bags. The Innova vehicle was later found abandoned near District Hospital in King Koti.

After opening the vehicle using a duplicate key, police discovered that two cash bags were missing. The stolen amount included Rs.5,88,932 belonging to D Mart and Rs.3,74,533 belonging to Mangalya Shopping Mall. The total stolen cash was Rs.9,63,465.

Police immediately launched a technical investigation and tracked the accused to Gulbarga in Karnataka.

A special police team rushed to Gulbarga and conducted a raid at Savera Guest House near Gulbarga Bus Stand on May 21 at around 6 pm. Acting on technical intelligence inputs, police successfully apprehended the accused and recovered the stolen money.

Police seized net cash of Rs.9,53,760 from the accused. Officials also recovered a Samsung Galaxy M31 mobile phone, a Tommy Hilfiger blue coloured bag, and the key of the Innova Crysta vehicle.

Investigators suspect the accused may have planned the theft after observing weaknesses in the cash transit security arrangement. Police are also examining whether anyone else assisted him before or after the theft.

The operation was carried out by Sultan Bazar SHO G. Naresh with the assistance of SI D. Venu, police constable C. Sandeep of Sultan Bazar Police Station, and constable K. Abhilash of Narayanaguda Police Station under the supervision of ACP Sultan Bazar Division.

Senior police officials appreciated the team for solving the case within two days through coordinated field work and technical tracking.

Police officials advised private cash transit agencies and security firms to strictly follow safety protocols while transporting large amounts of cash to avoid similar incidents in future. (Maxim News)
