The case relates to allegations made by Khera against Riniki Bhuyan Sharma, wife of Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma.
He had claimed that she held multiple passports from different countries. As a result, the remarks triggered political controversy.

Following a complaint filed by Riniki Bhuyan Sharma, police registered a case in Guwahati.

Subsequently, Assam Police began efforts to trace Khera. During this period, he approached the Telangana High Court seeking protection.

Earlier, Justice K. Sujana of the Telangana High Court granted him interim anticipatory bail for one week. The court also directed him to seek further relief from the Guwahati High Court within that time.

However, Assam Police challenged the order before the Supreme Court on April 12. Therefore, the apex court heard the matter and stayed the interim bail granted earlier.
