Swapnalok Fire Incident: CM Orders Probe
KCR advised the Home Minister Mahmood Ali and Minister Talasani Srinivas Yadav to find out the reasons for the accident at the field level and provide necessary assistance and cooperation to the victims.
It is to mention here that at least six people suffocated to death and several others were feared trapped inside the eight-storied Swapnalok Complex in Secunderabad on Thursday after a short-circuit in the fifth floor air-conditioning unit triggered a mammoth fire that raced to the top floors, sending a huge pall of smoke billowing into the sky.
This the latest in a string of fire accidents in and around Hyderabad over the last few months.
The deceased identified as Pramila, Vennela, Sravani, Shiva. Triveni and Prashanth, all aged around 25, were among the six who locked themselves inside a washroom on the fifth floor and died of asphyxiation as the fire raged in the corridors.
Doctors at Gandhi Hospital pronounced them dead on arrival, said district fire officer Srinivas Reddy, adding that 12 others had been rescued.
This is the second time in a decade that the commercial complex, one of the oldest in Secunderabad, has turned into an inferno.
The blinding smoke made it difficult for those trapped inside to track exit points even as 13 fire tenders battled the blaze in the high rise that houses outlets of garments and electronic outlets.(Maxim News)
