Talk Of India Not Safe For Women Totally Wrong: Meenakshi

Hyderabad, Oct.1 (Maxim News): BJP national spokesperson Meenakshi Lekhi today observed that the talk that India was not safe for women was not wrong and must be corrected.

Meenakshi Lekhi, who arrived here today at the invitation of FICCI Ladies Organization (FLO), said New York has more rape cases than Delhi or any other part of India. “It is a wrong narrative and must be corrected. The media must take responsibility in correcting the propaganda.

Today Delhi is the safest place for women”, she said, adding that “Every parent expect daughter to return home before dark by evening 6 to 7 pm. In fact, we are making impossible for our girls to work because of this kind of narrative and parents’ restrictions. It is very unfortunate”.

Meenakshi started her interaction with the media prior to the FLO members’ interaction, by welcoming Union Government’s decision in scrapping Article 370 pertaining to the Jammu & Kashmir. “This is a historic decision and it was only possible due to strong political will and commitment. Due to the special status in J & K, rights of many minorities like Buddhists in Ladakh and tribals like Gujjaras and others were impacted”, she said, adding that only three families control the entire J&K State.

Asked about continuous curfew and restrictions in J & K, Meenakshi said during the period from 1995 to 1998 when Congress was in power at the Centre and State, the J & K was put under curfew for 294 out of 365 days.

“Now we are talking about curfew for the last 60 days. There was no curfew at all but only some restrictions. Internet is down. We don’t want our neighbor to disturb harmony with hatred online messages. It might take some time. Situation is peaceful and under control now. Tourists may return to Jammu & Kashmir at the earliest”, she said.

Speaking about women empowerment, women reservations bill, she said the BJP was maintaining 33% reservation for women within the party. She also observed that there are millions of women workers at grass root level. But, there was no system to recognize them. (Maxim News)
